Closed Comedones? Blind Pimples? How Do They Form?

The acne formation process occurs when excess sebum is trapped in the pores due to blockages caused by cosmetics or abnormal thickening of the epidermis. Oily skin conditions, influenced by both genetics and hormones, are contributing factors that make the skin more susceptible to clogged pores.
Every clogged pore actually has a head, known as a comedone, which is a plug of trapped sebum and debris that forms inside the pore.
If it is close to the pore opening (Open Comedone), the head can be seen as a whitehead or blackhead.
However, if the comedone is deeper, the pore remains closed (Closed Comedone). It appears only as a raised bump, leading to the misconception that it has no head.

Inflamed acne is caused by C. acnes bacteria digesting sebum in the clogged pore and multiplying rapidly, leading to inflammation. Therefore, inflamed acne is a progressive stage of comedonal acne. As a result, inflamed acne can have both shallow and deep roots, just like comedonal acne.
Therefore, medical acne treatment focuses ontreating comedonal acne Reduces inflammation and prevents new clogged pores to help prevent acne recurrence.
