Pico Laser (Picosecond Laser) – Treatment for Melasma, Dark Spots, Skin Brightening, and Acne Scars

Pico Laser is an effective solution for managing skin concerns such as melasma, freckles, dark spots, and unwanted tattoos. It helps promote smoother and brighter skin with a lower risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation compared to conventional lasers, allowing you to resume daily activities shortly after the procedure. At Nititam Clinic, all treatments are performed by medical doctors. Free consultations are available. Add us on LINE: @NitithamClinic

Pico Laser (Picosecond Laser) Treatment

Pico Laser uses ultra-short laser pulses at the picosecond level (one trillionth of a second)—significantly faster than conventional lasers such as Q-Switched Nd:YAG. This advanced speed delivers highly effective pigment fragmentation and skin rejuvenation while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues.

Mechanism of Action

  • Photoacoustic Effect: High-speed laser energy shatters melanin pigments into tiny particles, allowing the body to naturally clear them away.
  • Collagen Stimulation: Enhances collagen production, improving skin texture, reducing fine lines, enlarged pores, and leaving the skin smoother.

Indications

  • Melasma, freckles, dark spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  • Tattoo removal
  • Skin rejuvenation and brightening
  • Acne scars, fine wrinkles, and skin laxity

Advantages of Pico Laser

Advantages of Pico Laser

  • Faster visible results compared to older lasers (Q-Switched)
  • Lower risk of PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) than older-generation lasers
  • Minimal downtime – no significant burning or peeling; patients can resume daily activities quickly
  • Safe and effective for all skin types, especially Asian skin

Possible Side Effects

Possible Side Effects

  • Mild redness, swelling, or temporary irritation (usually resolves in 1–3 days)
  • Increased sun sensitivity – strict sun protection is required
  • If settings are too aggressive, there is a potential risk of PIH or hypopigmentation, depending on the physician’s expertise and device quality (risks are generally higher with Q-Switched lasers)

Recommended Sessions

  • Pigmentation / Melasma / Freckles: 3–6 sessions or more, every 3–4 weeks
  • Tattoo Removal: 5–10 sessions, depending on ink color, depth, and tattoo size
  • Skin Rejuvenation / Brightening: noticeable results after 1–3 sessions
